How to add MSN Hotmail to iPhone or iPod Touch

tutorial thumbnail

Finally, after many months of waiting, Microsoft finally enabled the POP3 e-mail worldwide. What that means is free e-mail access from your iPhone or iPod Touch! Hurray!

Here are the steps you need to set-up a hotmail account.

Step 1

From your iPhone or iPod Touch, go to “Settings”.

add_hotmail_on_iphone_1

Step 2

Then go to “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”.

add_hotmail_on_iphone_2

Step 3

In there, go to “Add Account”.

add_hotmail_on_iphone_3

Step 4

Then go to the last option, which is “Other”.

add_hotmail_on_iphone_4

Step 5

Fill in the fields with your name, your hotmail address, your hotmail password and add a description if you want, then press “save”. It should take a while to confirm and setup your account.

add_hotmail_on_iphone_5

Step 6

You’re done! Go and check your e-mail from the main screen! It should load all your unread e-mails! If not, then you must have done something wrong.

add_hotmail_on_iphone_6

If something is wrong, check your internet connection. If it ok and the problem persist, check the Incoming Mail Server is correct as well as the Outgoing Mail Server:

add_hotmail_on_iphone_7

Incoming Mail Server, Host Name: pop3.live.com

Outgoing Mail Server, SMTP: smtp.live.com, Server Port: 25, Use SSL: yes.

Please note that some carriers may charge you for downloading e-mail attachments or browsing the web. Contact your phone carrier and make sure you know about these costs!

  • Hi, thanks so much, only prob is that i can see all my recent emails rather than just the unopened ones. Any ideas?

  • @Sarah: It doesn’t display only the unopened ones. It displays the unopened first plus all the recent emails in a descending order after. If that’s not how you meant it, it seems to be a server synchronisation problem. Try deleting the account and recreating it from scratch. Make sure the ports numbers are correct. If the problem persists, try restoring the iPhone/iPod if “must” solve the problem (it should).
    Good luck, Alex
